Post Offer Employment Testing (POET)


The Post Offer Employment Testing (POET) Program is used to assure that final applicants for physically demanding jobs have the physical ability to do a job before they begin working. The goal is to reduce work related injuries. New employees in certain jobs and some job changes for existing employees are affected. This program is being implemented throughout the UM System. On the Columbia campus, the program is being rolled out in stages. The first job title to be included is Custodian. Eventually all service/maintenance jobs with significant physical demands will be included in the POET Program. The physical demand testing will be required for both full time and part time employees.
